The EMO FOOD blog entry (WE LOVE COOKBOOK KITCHEN!)

The CookBook Kitchen!

THE BEST EVER SQUASH SOUP!!!

AGLIO E OLIO (go figure the pronunciation haha!)

Parmesan Crusted White Fish (YUUUUMY!)

December 6, 2009 – After weeks of bed rest, Piyar finally had the chance to go out – or at least jog around Boni High and eat out. And in what better way can we celebrate this than by eating in one of our favorite restaurants – the Cookbook Kitchen! YUM!

BUDGET: 200 - 350 per dish

SHE thinks:

I learned about CBK through my sister, Nikki. And boy – I AM FOREVER THANKFUL that she told me about this super duper great place. CBK is a little COZY haven for people who want to JUST talk and chill (clean fun though – no booze on their menu haha!) and of course, EXPERIENCE GOOOOOOOD TASTING FOOD.

This is just our second time to go to CBK, and this time we ordered their:

a.) AGLIO E OLIO - An olive oil based pasta with a spicy flair. It’s the perfect pasta dish for ladies who are with their CAN’T-EAT-IF-ITS-NOT-SPICY guy friends. HAHA!

b.) PARMESAN CRUSTED WHITE FISH – This dish is one of a kind. I love the taste of the Parmesan crust drizzled with the tangy taste of lemon butter. And the FISH! Grabe ha.. It’s very tender. It's baked just right!

c.) SQUASH SOUP – This is the BEST squash soup in town! Enough said.

I just love CBK. The food, the people, the service, the old Italian / Moroccan ambiance.. its just perfect!

The first time I brought Andrew to this place, he loved it! (Seriously, he LOOOVED it.. SOBRANG AFFECTED EXAGGERATED NA HAHA! READ ON.)

HE thinks:

I am glad that a place as honest as this still exists in this very MTV commercial culture. We’ve only eaten here twice but I could feel the love the chefs put into creating these works of art; keeping the honesty that artists should in their craft.

This made me remember my time in college; making music with different people; growing my musicality; indulging my passion. A time long forgotten… Time erodes the honesty of people and we are left with the truth of the majority. Sad, but true…

This place really reminded me on how we should be. Honest… Full of love… Disregarding the truth of the majority and keeping true to what one believes in. Pure in its own art…

THEY think:

The Cookbook Kitchen is a hard place to find, hidden in the forest of houses in Mandaluyong City. Although, once found will find a place alive with people. During weekends, this place is visited by various people; from young to old. To be sure to enjoy the experience, have your reservations. It’s recommended.

When we arrived, we were seated outside because the place was reserved by a group of models for a Christmas dinner. The weather was nice so it didn’t bother us. Very lively waiters, showing their enthusiasm to make our stay worthwhile, served us.

We ordered the Cream of Squash Soup, Aglio E Olio, and their famous Parmesan-Crusted White Fish. The soup was very rich. Thick and heavy, it is worth the price. We just love it, enough said. The pasta and the fish were our main course. The Aglio E Olio is olive oil based pasta with basil leaves and chili flakes. It is very light and mild and not as spicy as it sounds. It tastes like mild pesto with a special kick. The Parmesan-Crusted White Fish is something different. It was the first time we have had this kind of experience. It’s white fish, baked with lemon butter, crusted with Parmesan cheese and served with rice. It is just as what the menu says. “Rich, Succulent and Baked!” These dishes in itself were exquisite, but together it is surprisingly brilliant. The mild pasta complimented the white fish by giving it a slight kick, mixing the different tastes and contributed to a heavy meal. It is a must try for those who haven’t tried it.

We would definitely go back to this place to try new tastes and simply enjoy the peace of a hidden sanctuary.

SO WITH THAT, WE’RE GIVING THE COOKBOOK KITCHEN A 5 OUT OF 5 STARS!
